There’s nothing a cup of tea can’t fix; herbal tea edition

The saying ‘there’s nothing a cup of tea can’t fix’, might hold some truth to it when it comes to herbal tea.

Green teas have health benefits, which are actually connected with antioxidants in the tea. We are not looking into green tea today but herbal teas.

What is herbal tea?

Herbal tea is not actually a “tea” as it does not contain the leaves of tea plants but tisanes. Which are blends of dried fruits, flowers, spices, or herbs in water. Rooting from Asia, Herbal teas have been used as a natural remedy for centuries. Let’s look into some herbal teas;  

1. Ginger tea

Ginger tea is knowns to be a nausea remedy with its spicy and full-bodied flavor. The tea contains the antioxidant gingerol. it also contains trace amounts of vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, B6, B3, iron, and potassium.  

Ginger tea can boost immunity. It is also proven to help with pain, gastrointestinal function, inflammation, metabolic syndromes, and more. the tea can also slow down blood clotting and can be dangerous for people taking antiplatelet drugs. 

2. Chamomile tea

Known as a calming tea before bedtime, chamomile tea has been a natural remedy for several health conditions since ancient times. Chamomile contains a variety of bioactive phytochemicals and antioxidants. It also contains small amounts of calcium, potassium, carotene, and folate, among other nutrients. 

The tea can lower the risk of death from heart disease, immune system support, and possible protection against some cancers. it may also help women who suffer from premenstrual syndrome and even slow age-related bone loss.

3. Hibiscus tea

In addition to providing antioxidant power, hibiscus tea contains small amounts of calcium, potassium, magnesium, and other trace minerals. It offers antiviral and cardiovascular benefits and is effective against some strains of bird flu.  It may also help lower blood pressure and help decrease LDL (bad) cholesterol levels.
