Dengue Fever cases in Maldives increased

Compared to the month of March, April’s statistics have shown that dengue cases have increased by 3%, and since then the cases have been on the increase month by month. There has been an increase in dengue fever cases in Maldives.

The statistics released by the HPA show 26 dengue cases reported in March. But in April, these cases increased to a total of 92 dengue cases.

According to HPA, last year, the same period showed noticeably fewer dengue fever cases than this year. Moreover, this year, the highest number of cases were reported last month as well.

Due to the increase in dengue fever cases in the Maldives these days, the HPA has warned to take precautions after the dengue outbreak on May 27.

  • Dengue fever: 185 cases
  • Diarrhea: 1,824 cases

HPA has stated that even if common diseases have increased in the last month, smallpox and conjunctivitis have not increased.

For prevention of common cold:

  • Cover your nose and mouth while you cough and sneeze.
  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • If you have the disease, avoid going to crowded places.
  • If symptoms increase, consult a doctor and get vaccinated.

The common disease has markedly increased, and the hospitals are getting the brunt of it.

For prevention from dengue fever:

  • Drain stagnant water to prevent mosquito breeding.
  • Wearing clothes that cover most of the body is
  • Use mosquito repellent and lotion.
  • Stay hydrated often.
  • If fever persists after using paracetamol, consult a doctor.

For prevention of diarrhea:

  • Wash your hands before eating or preparing food.
  • Hand hygiene after being to the toilet
  • Cook food well and eat.
  • Use clean drinking water.
  • Use ORS, water, soup, and coconut drinks to keep hydrated.
  • If symptoms get worse consult a doctor.
