Want to Learn CPR?
When a heart stops beating (cardiac arrest) receiving even a simplified, hands-only CPR doubles the chance of survival.
Few years back when I just started working, a coworker collapsed one day and we struggled to find immediate medical attention. Not sure if cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) would help at the time because she had a stroke and passed away but we never know.
When a heart stops beating (cardiac arrest) receiving even a simplified, hands-only CPR doubles the chance of survival. However, only less than half of the people who experience outside the hospital receive CPR. Four out of five cardiac arrests happen at home so CPR could help you save a close one.
Key signs of Cardiac arrests
- Receiving no response – receiving no response after being loudly asked “Are you okay?” and shaking the person’s shoulders.
- Abnormal breathing – Check the chest rising and falling or listen to the person’s breathing form near his or her nose and mouth. irregular breaths that sound like snorting or gasping are abnormal breathing.
Hands-only CPR
- Call an ambulance before you begin or tell someone to make the call, you can put the phone on speaker too and follow the instructions given by the emergency operator.
- Next, place one hand on the center of the person’s chest Put your other hand directly on top. Lace the fingers of your top hand through the fingers of the other hand.
- Keep your arm straight, position your shoulders such that it’s directly above your hands and push down. Push hard using body weight, push down the chest at least two inches.
- Do the compressions repeatedly, aiming for a target of 100 to 120 pushes per minute.
